The team moved around the construction site, and inspected the various blocks being erected.

During the meeting, the contractor, BAMK REAL ESTATE and CONTRACTOR LIMITED, said the project’s progress stood at 25%, and attributed this to the far distance (from Ntoroko) they get the sand from, as the sand around is not good, and lake sand is preferred, but he was hopeful by end of December they would be at about 50%. However, he noted they were at about 19% or estimated to be at 3months behind schedule.

The scope of work to be done includes Administration block, 3 classroom blocks, for six classrooms, 2science labs, Multipurpose hall, 2 teacher’s houses, 2teachers’ kitchens, 2stance VIP latrines for administration block, 2stance VIP latrines for staff, 5stance latrines for boys, and 5 for girls, external works on the compound, rain water harvest system, and leveling the playground. He promised to speed up the work to catch up with the lost time of over 3months.

The CAO expressed utter disappointment over the slow progress of the project, having assumed site work on March 13, 2024. He sadly noted, that the contractor seems financially constrained, visibly shown by the work done, and the materials on site, showing the highest possibility of the project being abandoned. At the time of the site visit, there were few workers, no aggregates, no sand, and cement was just being offloaded from the delivery truck. He noted the project scope is disadvantaged by being late, having been given advance payment of 512million. However, the projects estimate as visible at site is not even at 500m, but promised to consult his financial and audit team to ascertain if work done is equivalent to 500m. He promised to lead his team every week for site visits, to confirm and monitor the progress of the project.

The LC V chairperson requested the contractor to have enough labor force, and multi task, so the progress of the project can be visibly seen. He also requested the Labor Office, to have all the data concerning the site workers, and give a report on the next site visit, as it could possibly also be a factor for the slow progress. He also requested the internal auditor to ascertain the status of the project and give the report at the next visit.

The RDC on her part promised to make an impromptu visit before end of week, to ascertain progress of work, and verify claims that materials are on the way, and more workers are being brought onsite. She also promised to intensify supervision and monitoring, even if it means spending more money on fuel, to make sure this project succeeds.

The meeting requested the contractor, to ensure timely delivery of materials on site, avoid the lame excuses currently being traded, and have enough labor force, and have them paid on time to avoid any disgruntlements, to enable them do their work professionally as per work plan.
