Administration

The district has 128 government and 374 Private/community Primary Schools. It also has 9 government and 25 private/community secondary schools. The Safe water Coverage in the district is at 72.3% (National 67%). There are 26 functional health facilities, 16 Government owned, while 10 are Private Non-Profit (PNFP).

Demographic characteristics of the district

The district has a current population of 502,700 persons (consisting of 252,317 males and 250,383 females) as per the UBOS Population Projections, growing at a rate of 3.88% per year. This is a very high growth rate of the population notwithstanding the fertility rate 5.4 children per woman and at such a rate the population will double in the next 20 years.
