Due to intensive community sensitization parents’ involvement in education has improved PLE performance
General performance for Education sector for the last three years
1. Improved sanitation and hygiene in schools due to the provision of hand washing facilities by development partners like Jese
2. Awareness on HIV/AIDS due to messages in school compounds
3. development partners like RTI, Batwana,Kind Uganda and Bringing Hope to the Family have helped the department to improve education standards
4. Political good will and support has created peaceful working conditions.
5. Sawlog Uganda and Forestry department have established wood lots in 30 schools. Under Operation Wealth Creation has given out tea seedlings to Barahiija,Kasamba and Kyabaranga Primary schools while Kyakayombya,Mugoma,Nsinde ,Kyembogo,Webikere are growing coffee while Kitagweta and Barahiija are keeping dairy cows
6. The school garden concept has taken root and is now visible in 100 schools in the District under World Bank program and this has provided pupils and teachers with midday meals
7. Continued timely support from the Ministry of Education and Sports in form of capitation grants for all Institutions of learning.
Major Challenges
1. Congestion due to inadequate classrooms, furniture and VIP latrines.
2. High Pupil teacher ratio in schools 1:70 a total of 526 teachers are needed to make the teacher pupil ratio of 1:53 ideal.
3. Lack of teachers’ houses only 33 schools can accommodate 132 teachers in the 128 schools in the district.
