Kipepa Women of Hope Group Trained on Commercialization of Agriculture using local economic growth support
Yesterday the 17th October 2024, we had a successful engagement and sensitization training of farmer groups of Kipepa Women of Hope in Nyantungo Sub County, Kyenjojo District. The group has over 80 beneficiaries producing Maize, Coffee Vegetables for income generation. In attendance were the local councilors, CARE technical team, the Community Development Officer (CDO) Nyantungo Sub County, and the Acting Senior Commercial Officer.
The overall objective of the training was about commercialization of Agriculture using local economic growth support funding and micro scale irrigation, and an emphasis also on food security.
The Acting Senior Commercial Officer/Katooke Town Council, and also Focal person LEG project, Mr. Kyomukama Emmanuel emphasized the need for using the produced food especially maize and vegetables for their home consumption to improve on nutrition and good health of them and the children, and the surplus can be sold for an income.
He also informed the group about LEGS funding from the Islamic Bank, at an interest rate of 8% per annum, which if taken up can boost production and their income. He also encouraged the members to save more and work as a team.
The CDO, Mr. Muhumuza Martin cautioned the group on gender based violence, and emphasized need for a settled mind as a cornerstone for economic development.
The group were so grateful for the insights, and promised to work hard, together with the district office and development partners to improve their livelihoods.
This group will benefit from the LEGS funding in addition to the already existing support from the development partners, which includes better farming practices, savings and credit.
